Financial Controller

My client, a small business in wholesale/distribution are looking for a Financial Controller to manage the finance department.

The Role
They currently operate outdated legacy systems which will be replaced during late 2010 and which the successful candidate will be involved with implementing. Full training will provided by the system supplier, Netsuite, and it is planned that the Financial Controller will become one of the Group’s system power users. The successful candidate will be hands on with good attention for detail and have experience of preparing group and divisional accounts in an SME business.

Responsibilities·
 
- Preparation of monthly group management accounts and commentary  
- Monthly reporting to divisional heads  
- Reconciliation and investigation of monthly gross margins  
- Maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules  
- Management of year-end audit including preparation of audit file and statutory accounts  
- Management of finance department and associated reporting  
- Attending and minuting of board meetings  
- Deputising for the Group Finance Director when required.  
- Assisting department heads and the Group Finance Director with preparation of periodic budgets and forecasts  
- Weekly predictive sales forecasting report  
- Development of accounting systems and controls  
- Support to Sales, operations and purchasing departments on reporting and systems.
Specific Objectives·         
 
- Deliver implementation of new system in finance, but also ensuring the front to back integration fits together operationally and for reporting
- Improve the speed of accounts preparation to enable more time for analysis and interpretation  
- Improve controls in the business  
- Support the Group’s debtor and cash management

Skills & Experience

Required 
- Group accounts preparation in SME environment  
- Excellent excel skills, particularly data manipulation  
- Hands on with strong communication skills and a sense of humour  
- Pro active with track record of system, process and control improvement  
- Rounded commercial experience, not just a reporting accountant  
- Experience of finance department management  
- Demonstrable problem solving skills

Advantageous 
- Systems implementation experience  
- Knowledge of retail systems and controls  
- Knowledge of Netsuite ERP system  
- Dealing with reporting of overseas entities  
- Italian or French language skills
